Lake Shikotsu & Takino Suzuran Hillside Park 1-Day Tour

Lake Shikotsu & Takino Suzuran Hillside Park 1-Day Tour

For this tour, I planned this Lake Shikotsu & Takino Suzuran Hillside Park 1-Day Tour to be easy and enjoyable for a foreign family traveling with a little kid. Lake Shikotsu was a relaxing first stop, with clear blue water, fresh air, and plenty of space to walk around without feeling rushed. After that, Takino Suzuran Hillside Park was perfect for the child to enjoy open nature, seasonal flowers, and a more playful atmosphere. It was a calm and family-friendly day trip from Sapporo, with beautiful Hokkaido scenery and a comfortable pace for everyone.

First Destination: Lake Shikotsu

Lake Shikotsu is a beautiful caldera lake near Sapporo, known for its clear blue water, peaceful lakeside views, and surrounding mountains. For a family-friendly day trip, it is an easy and relaxing stop where guests can take photos, walk near the lake, enjoy fresh air, and take a sightseeing boat if the weather is good. It gives visitors a softer, calmer side of Hokkaido nature compared with busier city sightseeing spots.

Lake Shikotsu Visitor Center is a good first stop when visiting Lake Shikotsu, especially for a family with a little kid, because it gives an easy introduction to the lake’s nature, wildlife, volcanic history, and seasonal scenery before walking around the lakeside. The center has exhibits about the lake and surrounding national park, multilingual pamphlets, and free admission.

After walking around the visitor center, we decided to eat in a restaurant around the visitor center area. There was also kid menu in this restaurant, so Lake Shikotsu is also recommended for short family-oriented tour!

Second Destination: Takino Suzuran

Takino Suzuran Hillside Park is a large family-friendly national park in Sapporo, perfect for a relaxed stop after visiting Lake Shikotsu. It has open lawns, seasonal flowers, playground areas, forest paths, and waterfalls, so the child can move around freely while the adults enjoy the scenery. It is Hokkaido’s only national government park and covers around 400 hectares, with gardens, play areas, waterfalls, and walking trails.

It was raining a little, but that didn’t stop our clients from exploring the park. The flowers still looked beautiful under the gentle drizzle, giving the whole place a calm and refreshing atmosphere.

There was a flower field filled with colorful blooms, and watching our clients play together there like one happy family brought smiles to our faces too.

There were also several fun structures inside the park where visitors could go in and enjoy different activities. The most interesting one was definitely the structure that looked like a garlic sprout!

There was also an area with giant inflatable tubes where the whole family could play together. Even the father looked really excited to join in and enjoy the fun!

There was also a nature walk area that felt relatively safe and comfortable for a family with a little kid to explore together.

We truly enjoyed our time with this lovely family. As we bid farewell in Sapporo City, their happy smiles together as a family left us with wonderful memories.

It took us the whole day to complete this Shikotsu Lake and Takino 1-day family-friendly tour. Thank you for reading this short travel blog!
